Free Touring Exhibitions available from Guildhall Library

Guildhall Library, a public reference library specialising in the history of London, has two touring exhibitions on the Great Plague of 1665 and the Great Fire of London that are available to hire for free. Each exhibition consists of eight pull-up banners and are flexible enough to fit in most spaces. If you are a museum, library, history centre, school, or any other organisation, and are interested in hiring these exhibitions, we would love to hear from you.

London’s Dreadful Visitations: The Great Plague, 1665

The Great Plague was a devastating event in the City of London, wiping out almost 100,000 people. Whether young or old, man or woman, saint or sinner, it killed mercilessly and changed London forever. This exhibition takes you through the story of the plague and explains what you can learn through Guildhall Library’s extensive plague collections.

That Dreadful Fire: the Hand of God, a Great Wind and a Very Dry Season

The Great Fire wiped out almost all of the City of London and affected the entire population. This exhibition takes you through the story of the Great Fire and explains what you can learn through Guildhall Library's collections, including who was to blame, its impact, and how they rebuilt the City.

 

The following information applies to both exhibitions:

  • Each consists of eight pull-banners measuring approximately 1200mm wide by 2065mm high.
  • Free to hire.
  • We ask that borrowers insure the exhibitions for the duration of the loan.
  • We ask that borrowers arrange transport of the banners to and from their institution.
  • Borrowers are welcome to display their own collections with the banners.
